Community Housing Resource Night

XTLyouthCommunity Housing Network, Inc. will be returning to Affirmations every third Tuesday of the month, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. If you are in need of housing resources and would like to find out more information on how to acquire them, please stop by! CHN provides short-term, temporary rental assistance to individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

Yoga with Sonia Hernandez

XTLyouthAre you ready for yoga with Sonia Hernandez? This group will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of every month. Come join Yoga Instructor Sonia Hernandez and Affirmations for the unification of Mind, Body & Spirit. There is a suggested donation rate of $5.

Healthy Living Series: Chair and Mat Yoga with Allen Fender

XTLyouthCome join Yoga Instructor Allen Fender for the latest in our Heatlhy Living Series. Chair yoga is from 1 to 2 p.m. and mat yoga is 2 to 3 p.m. The group will meet every Friday and a suggested donation of $5 is appreciated.

Human Condition Film Festival

XTLyouthStop by the Birmingham 8 Theater on Thursday, October 5th, 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. for a Film Showcase presented by Paris Films. This showcase is designed to be a fundraising event that will unite four organizations and one film company to improve the human condition and help save lives. Mindfulness for Everyday Life with Shawn Williams

XTLyouthThe purpose of this course is to provide instruction and education for mindfulness practice. We will meet each Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. for five weeks. The course will consist of short lecture, guided meditation, and discussion. Participants will complete daily home practice meditation assignments starting at five minutes a day and working up to 20 minutes daily by the end of the course. Suggested Donation: $5

Community Conversations with Affirmations

XTLyouthAffirmations is developing a 10-year vision, a new mission and a robust strategic plan to guide us into the future. We envision a future focused on relevant programs, long-term sustainability, and community engagement. As part of this engagement, we are planning for three Community Conversations. To accommodate everyone, the meetings will occur on three different dates and at three different locations. Join us on October 17th, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Adult Well Being Services in Detroit, October 21st, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Affirmations or October 23rd, 6p.m. to 8 p.m. at Centro Multicultural La Familia. Familywize & Walgreens Free Flu Shot Event

XTLyouthOn Tuesday, October 24th, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Walgreens pharmacists will be on site to provide free flu shots to underinsured and uninsured individuals. Vouchers will be provided at the event. Contact Heather Aymer at for questions.

Detroit Taco Company

XTLyouthCome in for lunch or dinner at Detroit Taco Company on Monday, October 30, and 20% of your total bill will be donated to Affirmations. This is valid for both dine-in and carry-out orders. Simply bring a copy of the flyer that can be found by clicking here or show it on your phone to ensure that a donation is received to the center.
