Affirmations’ youth programs create a welcoming space for young people from all over metro Detroit to find support, connect with each other, and learn to advocate for their needs.

Reading Rainbow
A social club/book club for kids in grades 4-8, meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month, starting at 6:00 pm in the library’s program room. Sign-up via the link, drop-ins are also welcome.

Lavender Leadership Academy
Lavender Leadership, Affirmations’ 16-week Youth Leadership and Job Readiness Program engages youth ages 14-18 around topics like resume writing, interview skills, race and racism, advocacy, mental health, self-care, and more to prepare them for future success.

Youth Drop-In Center
Ages: 13-18
When: Fridays at 4 pm-7 pm
Where: Affirmations | 290 W 9 Mile Rd, Ferndale
A safe space for LGBTQIA2S+ youth to build community and have fun in a casual space. The Carl Rippberger Drop-in Center is equipped with a sensory station, board games, books, arts and crafts, streaming services, video games and more! We offer snacks, beverages, monthly pizza parties on the 2nd Friday of each month, and a free gender-affirming clothing rack.

Youth Advisory Council
Our Youth Advisory Council empowers youth ages 14-19 to help guide Affirmations’ programming. Get involved in your community, build your resume, develop leadership skills, and have a voice in creating the Affirmations you want to see!
YAC members join monthly gatherings and commit to a year of participation. Members should participate in an existing Affirmations youth program to apply.
