Affirmations’ Support & Discussion Groups are FREE for anyone who’d like to access them virtually or at the Center. The groups are intended to provide guests connection, support, and Community around a particular issue or identity.

Disability and Discussion 

  • Tuesdays, 5 p.m.
  • An egalitarian, community-led support group for LGBTQ+ disabled people and our allies. Our mission is to serve as a safe, accommodating, and accessible space where disabled LGBTQ+ people have the autonomy to empower one another, and to educate the broader LGBTQ+ community on issues of disability and intersectionality.

FtM Detroit

  • 2nd Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and 4th Wednesdays
  • A support group that provides trans men an opportunity to discuss a fuller image of transition within their larger life. Come together and tell your stories of doubt and discovery, invisibility and belonging, isolation and paying wisdom forward, male privilege and vulnerability, integrating intersections of your identities, and learning how to be a good man. Attendance is restricted to FTM/transgender men, anyone who identifies on the transmasculine side of the spectrum.

Game Night

  • Meets Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Meet new people through board games, rounds of pool, foosball, and more in the Bayard Rustin Recreation Room on the lower level of Affirmations. Games and fun will be provided, but feel free to bring your own as well! All ages are welcome to join the fun.

Gentle Flow Yoga

  • Meets Mondays from 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.
  • Classes are designed for all levels from beginners to those with a regular yoga practice. The cost is $10.

Gentle Mindful Movement

  • Meets Saturdays at 7 p.m.
  • All adults welcome, regardless of age, identity or ability- just bring yourself. Guided movements, imagery, and stillness. Build body awareness, circulation, relaxation in a gentle way.
  • Discuss the movement explorations in supportive, inclusive atmosphere. *Not a replacement for medical treatment. Every other Saturday 7-830 pm beginning March 7, 2020, Room #204. Joel Haines is a Registered Somatic Movement Educator, supporting people to connect to their body’s intelligence.

ISMS (Interrupting Social Media Stereotypes)

  • Meets Third Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • ISMS is a roundtable networking and discussion group addressing various social stigmas with a different theme each month. Participants will be a part of an active learning discussion regarding the month’s theme, and find ways that we as a community can work against these “isms.”
  • The group will be led by Megan Fuciarelli from US2 Consulting, Inc. and hosted by Affirmations LGBTQ+ Community Center. Donations greatly appreciated.

Lesbian Euchre

  • 1st Saturdays, 5:30 to 8 p.m. (Oct – May)
  • Play cards with women who identity as women who love women.

LGBTQ+ & Ally Millennials and Gen- Zers

  • 1st & 3rd Thursdays – 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
  • If you are LGBTQ+ or an ally 18-35 – years old seeking community, friendship, and a Safe Space to be your genuine self and be honored, this is the group for you! Official group meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Affirmations. Meetings range from group discussions on LGBTQ+ related topics, to craft activities, games, and speakers and guests from local LGBTQ+ resources and businesses.   • 3rd Wednesdays  from 7 – 8 p.m.
  • Open to everyone who has a loved one in their life that identifies as LGBTQ+. This group is a support and networking group for individuals who want to help each other navigate supporting their LGBTQ+ loved ones.

Magic: The Gathering Club

  • Thursdays, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Come to the Center and play one of the best games in the word with us! Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game where you experience the thrill of a wizards’ duel, while also hanging out and connecting with friends. At our club, we have FREE Welcome decks for new players to learn with and take home, a sealed league where we build decks from booster packs, and prizes from our sponsor Gate Keeper Games.   • Discussion group for gay, bisexual and transgender men ages 18 and up. Topics vary from lighthearted subjects to in-depth discussions. Holds holiday parties and outings in addition to regular meetings.

  • 2nd Saturdays, 5 to 8 p.m.
  • A social, fundraising group made up of Bears and admirers. Membership is open to all that consider themselves men* and are attracted to men. * includes biological males as well as male presenting individuals.

Queer Conversations

  • Meets Saturdays 12 p.m.
  • Join in a fun, interactive conversation with peers about current events, community topics, and much more – all decided by the luck of the draw and submissions of participants. Come with conversation topics ready, because yours might just be the topic of the day! All ages are welcome.

  • People in the sex trade and adult industry experience stigma from family, friends, and society. This group is oriented towards full service sex workers of all genders, but all erotic laborers are welcome to attend. Participants will receive peer support and learn harm reduction techniques.

  • An open support group for transgender individuals just coming out and their allies.

Writing Group

  • 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 6:30 to 9 p.m.
  • Writing Group is a creative discussion group where LGBTQ+ folk can share and receive critique in an affirming, non-judgmental Safe Space.
