At Affirmations Community Center, volunteers are the heart and soul of our queer community. Every person who walks through our doors deserves to feel safe, celebrated, and connected, and YOU can help make that happen!
Queer spaces like ours aren’t just “fun places to hang out.” They’re safe havens where people build resilience, friendship, and community. By volunteering, you’re helping LGBTQ+ folks of all ages feel seen, supported, and affirmed. Plus, you’ll get to meet amazing people, share your talents, and have a blast doing it!
We have Level 1: Community Support Volunteers for folks getting started, and Level 2: Community-Facing & Skilled Volunteers for those ready to lead, connect, and shine.
Level 1 Community Support Volunteers are essential to keeping programs running smoothly. These are hands-on, flexible, and fun roles that let you plug in where you’re most excited to help.
What you’ll do in different roles:
Service Saturdays: Jump into project days that help the center stay amazing
Event Support Crew: Set up décor, tables, and signage, help with check-in, and clean up afterward
Glitter & Grit Squad: Paint, build, organize, decorate and keep our space fabulous
Food Pantry Support: Stock shelves, organize donations, and connect with community members
Street Team: Spread the word about Affirmations and share our good vibes with the community
Food Shoppers: Grab pantry supplies with provided gift cards
Clothing Closet Sorting: Sort, fold, and prep donated clothes to make everyone feel included
Level 2 volunteers are Community-facing and have Specialized role with more responsibility and direct impact on the community. These roles are about showing up consistently, leading with heart, and making people feel welcome and affirmed.
Currently Recruiting:
Welcome Ambassadors & Teen Welcome Ambassadors: Be the first friendly face people see! Greet guests, answer questions, and help folks feel at home
Event Welcome Volunteers: Check in attendees, support accessibility, and keep events fun and inclusive
Food Pantry Leads / Logistics: Lead pantry operations, organize volunteers, and keep things running smoothly
Teen Drop-In Volunteers: Support teen drop-in programming, activities, and mentoring
Group Facilitators: Lead or co-lead community groups. Co-leaders need 3 months experience and a recommendation from a current leader
Clothing Closet Coordinators: Help run clothing distribution and organize volunteers
Digital Divas (Benefits & Tech Navigation): Help people navigate tech, forms, and benefits with care
Friendly Callers (Therapy Waitlist Support): Check in with folks on therapy waitlists and provide affirming support
Affirmations Ambassadors; Table at Prides, farmers markets, resource fairs, and events, sharing info, merch, and good vibes about Affirmations
Arts & Culture Volunteers: Support gallery installs, film series setup, event support, and cultural programming
Green Thumb Volunteers: Care for indoor/outdoor spaces through planting, gardening, seasonal refreshes, and greening projects
